Light arrives slowly in the valley, catching the cliffs before the fields.
Bamiyan rewards the early riser. Before the valley warms, the cliffs turn rose and then gold, and farmers lead donkeys between the poplars. Our guides suggest beginning at the foot of the great niche, then climbing towards Shahr-e Gholghola as the sun rises.
